“A Vision Without Action Is A Daydream”

I was recently blessed from one of my students. She shared one of her writing assignments with me and with her permission I’m sharing it with all of you. She was asked by one of her teachers to write her favorite quote and relate it to her choice of career. I found it simple and refreshing, and at times humorous.

Why keep this blessing to myself? Instead, I pass it on to you, knowing full well you will not only reap the benefits of her thoughts, but also pass it on to others.

“A vision without action is a daydream” is the quote I choose because it is very powerful. It does not beat around the bush, it is straight forward. It is a very realistic quote that all people should know but some still dream and put no action behind it.

How do you expect to run without learning how to walk? Without practising how to walk and jog you will not be able to run. This is how using action to make a vision come true works. Many people have visions of what kind of person they want to be, but because the future is so many years away they don’t act on it. The thing people do not realize is that it’s your everyday actions that makes you the person you are going to be.

I find myself using and also not using the quote. For example this essay was due almost a week ago and now I’m handing it in late. I want to be a lawyer and handing things in late is not good. This action is not good for my future. I like acting, I always want to be on tv. So I have taken actions and joined a drama club. Since I want to be a lawyer when people and friends have problems I take action and help them.

In conclusion, having a vision includes an action. Without an action it will get you no where. Sometimes wishing is not the answer, it’s about doing.

So many of us fall into the category of daydreamer, but this young lady reminds us the importance and significance of doing. We all know it, but it’s never a bad thing to once again be reminded; especially from our children.

Which areas of your life have you been trapped in daydreaming mode? Put yourself in the best position to do and succeed, whether it be joining a club or signing up for a class; if it fosters the necessary actions to live your dreams as reality, then go for it.
